This fall’s easiest choice? We’re paying!

Are you a knowledge worker? Then there are many good reasons for you to join Forskerforbundet (the Norwegian Association of Researchers, NAR).

Right now, one of them is that we will cover your membership fee for the rest of the year, you will also be covered by our basic insurance plan, which includes life insurance, disability insurance, accident insurance and critical illness insurance.

First a little about us

Our name may play tricks on you, but we represent far more people than scientists. We also organize other employees within the fields of research, higher education, and dissemination of knowledge. Among us we have archaeologists, librarians, clinical dietitians, academic support staff, lecturers, curators, professors, PhD candidates and researchers – to name a few.

In total, we are more than 26,000 members, and the reason we want to have even more members is simple: The power of a union grows when it is shared among many!

Our main purpose is to increase salaries and improve working conditions for our members, and we are a safety net the day you need it.

As a member you get

• A safety net. We have skilled union representatives who assist our members in challenging situations.
• A top team of specialized lawyers who can assist you if you are facing difficulties in your employment.
• We negotiate salaries and work to ensure that our members has a good and fair salary development. 
• Good banking and insurance offers, such as favourable mortgages, as well as other membership benefits.
• A professional and social community. As a trade unionist, you are part of a professional and social network in your workplace. Most local branches organize seminars, courses, and social gatherings for their members.
• Reading material. You will receive our magazine Forskerforum ten times a year.

Information about the membership and the offer

• The regular monthly fee is NOK 567 for membership plus NOK 208 for the insurance plan.
• For PhD candidates (stipendiat), the regular monthly fee is NOK 142 (first year of membership), then NOK 284 (following years) for membership plus NOK 208 for the insurance plan.
• The offer is valid when registering for membership in the period between August 11 and December 31 of 2025. Student members are not eligible for free membership during the campaign.
• If you do not wish to continue your membership, you must submit a written resignation. Otherwise, your membership and insurance plan will be continued on regular terms from January 1, 2026.

Please be aware that legal assistance is not provided before the membership has lasted for 3 months (qualifying period). If you are a new member, we cannot assist you in any ongoing case. The only exception to this rule is if you have any inquiries regarding temporary employment.
