Time use surveys for academic staff have been conducted regularly since the 1980s.

– These are statistics that are very important for us in our work with wages and working conditions in the sector. It gives us the opportunity to see developments over time, but also provides a good snapshot of the situation in 2025.

This year, they will also survey how much time is used for writing applications and what proportion of the work is externally financed. We look forward to seeing the results and hope all our members take the time to complete this survey, says Sæther.

Time use surveys for academic and professional staff at universities and university colleges are usually conducted approximately every five years. The previous time use survey was conducted by NIFU in 2021. Now Statistics Norway is conducting the survey.
