See all our membership benefitsAs a member of Forskerforbundet, you don’t just have a trade union supporting you every working day. You also get lots of membership benefits, including great discounts on everything from insurance to waterproof clothing. Not least, you can get very good terms on your mortgage.
As a member, you have the opportunity to save tens of thousands of kroner by taking advantage of these benefits. For many, this means saving their entire membership fee – and more. Let’s see how.
“Many of the things you need to spend money on from day to day and through the year are cheaper with your membership benefits,” says Joar Flynn Jensen, Head of Organisation Department in Forskerforbundet.
“For example, you can get great savings on the big stuff, like mortgages and insurance, but also on things like clothes and car hire.”
Most people have home insurance and travel insurance. But perhaps the most important thing is to insure ourselves and those we love. It is very advisable to have both life insurance and critical illness insurance.
Many people find these insurance policies to be expensive, and a health certificate is usually required when purchasing. When you join Forskerforbundet, you are automatically covered by our basic insurance package, which includes life insurance and critical illness insurance, with no health assessment needed.
Figures from Forskerforbundet's insurance office show, for example, that a 35-year-old member will save as much as 68 per cent, compared to the market price, on the four aforementioned insurances [1] through Forskerforbundet's collective member insurances. For a 55-year-old member, the savings are even greater, a whopping 69 percent.
When it comes to mortgages, Forskerforbundet members can save money and get beneficial terms by moving their mortgage to Nordea.
The best interest rate for Forskerforbundet members is currently 5.44 per cent [2], meaning that many members could save thousands of kroner per year compared with current typical interest rates.

In total, this family has saved more than NOK 20,000 by taking advantage of their membership benefits.
By making use of their membership benefits, the family has saved the entire membership fee for both members, and more. In addition, there is the tax deduction for paid membership fees.
“This family has saved a substantial amount simply by being observant and taking advantage of their membership benefits,” says Jensen, adding: “They might even save enough to pay for their next holiday in the mountains.”
