Why join a union?

Forskerforbundet – the Norwegian Association of Researchers – is a trade union that works for good pay and working conditions for our members. We look after our members in local pay negotiations, and stand up when members experience problems in the workplace.

Not only researchers are our members. Among our members you will find professors, archaeologists, clinical nutritionists, meteorologists, librarians, counselors and study counselors – to name a few. Many work at universities and colleges, but we also have members at hospitals, research institutes, museums, public agencies and in private companies. We also have many members who are PhD candidates and postdocs.

Join the team – we are stronger together

Forskerforbundet is the union for you if you are aiming to work within research, higher education and/or knowledge dissemination both in the public and private sector. As a student member, you don't pay regular membership fees, but you're still on par with the rest of us.

Student members pay a fee of NOK 250 as a lump sum. This fee is valid as long as you are a student.
Included in the fee is a free insurance package with three policies plus access to a free online doctor service.

Who are we?

Forskerforbundet organizes knowledge workers, and our members are a diverse group. We organize employees who work as archaeologists, dieticians, meteorologists, archivists, librarians, professors, research fellows, technical-administrative staff – and many others.

In other words, you don't have to be a researcher in order to join Forskerforbundet – even if our name suggests so.

What is Forskerforbundet Student?

Forskerforbundet Student is the student association of Forskerforbundet. Our members are students at universities and university colleges throughout the country, and from many different fields of study.

There is no age limit for being a student member of Forskerforbundet. However, student members under the age of 36 are automatically members of Forskerforbundet Student, which is our student association. Members of the student association can, among other things, participate in the annual student conference and elect the student association's board.

You don't have to have ambitions to become a researcher to be a student member of Forskerforbundet. If you are a student who wants to be part of a union that works for your needs and interests as a student, you can become a part of us.

In 2019, a student committee was established for the first time in Forskerforbundet. At the student conference in the fall of 2022, Forskerforbundet Student was founded. The student association is led by a board elected at the annual student conference. Forskerforbundet Student Association Board.
