Kurs i kappeskriving for PhD studenter
Dato: 22 mai 2024
Tid: 9.00-15.30
Sted: Rikshospitalet
22.10.2024
This one-day writing course will focus on familiarizing participants with some typical academic writing conventions, as well as addressing the most common problem areas confronting researchers when writing the extended introduction to their article-based PhD thesis, or ‘kappe’.
This is a practical course in which participants' own writing is a key element. Time will be spent discussing participants' texts as well as the principles of (good) academic writing. Participants will develop a sophisticated awareness of the conventions of academic writing – specifically the kappe, and how they can vary between different disciplines. Participants will apply this awareness to their own texts and work on refining their own introductions. Moreover, the analytical tools each participant develops during the course will keep on working after the course: each participant will be given the tools continue to develop their awareness of academic writing and improve their own writing long after the course has finished.
An outline of the topics covered during the workshop:
• Identifying content and style requirements and conventions for kappe texts in your field
• Modelling texts
• Structure and flow
• Framing and fitting the kappe with the articles in the thesis
Each participant will also have the opportunity to submit their draft Kappe and receive individual feedback on their text.
